Invitation for Architectural Quotient ( AQ ) 2018-19 - 20/07/2018

Dear All, Vivekanand Institute of Technology's Padmabhushan Dr. Vasantdada Patil College of Architecture, Pune ( in association with IIA, Pune ) is hosting a quiz event " Architectual Quotient (AQ) -2018" for students of Architecture on Friday, 20th July 2018 at S. M. Joshi Sabhagriha, Navi Peth, Pune.

Any student enrolled in the current academic year 2018-19 from 2nd to 5th year can participate in the AQ-2018 event.

AQ 2018 is round the corner! With all Archi students preparing for quiz, here is a short a quiz for you guys to know

Visit & Interation : Ar. Brinda Somaya, Mumbai - 06/07/2018

Ar. Brinda Somaya visited our Institute on Friday, 06th July 2018. She had a brief tour of our college. She had an interactive session with the faculty after which she met the students and discussed various issues.

Brinda Somaya, Architect and Conservationist completed her Master of Arts degree from Smith College, USA after graduating from the Sir J. J. College of Architecture, Mumbai. She believes that development and progress must proceed without straining the cultural and historic environment.

Her philosophy: the Architect’s role is that of guardian – his is the conscience of the built and un-built environment. This belief underlines her work at “Somaya and Kalappa Consultants”, the company she has headed for the last three decades.

Her oeuvre, spanning large corporate, industrial and institutional campuses extends to public spaces, which she has rebuilt and sometimes reinvented as pavements, parks and plazas as well as historic restoration and adaptive reuse.

Brinda is a Member of the Editorial Board for MARG Architectural Books, Member of the Committee of `Environmental Impact Assessment of New Construction Projects & New Industrial Estates for `Ministry of Environment & Forests’ Government of India and was a Member of Urban Heritage Conservation Committee and Mumbai’s Initiative for the Protection & Improvement of Streets & Public Spaces.. She was also on the IAWA board of Advisors (International Archive of Women in Architecture), U.S.A. & Founder Trustee of the Hecar Foundation.

She chaired a conference & organized a seminal exhibition in Mumbai on the Work of Women Architects with a focus on South Asia. Brinda has delivered analytical and critical talks as well as presented papers in India and abroad on her work – and other connected subjects. She has given lectures in the U.S.A, U.K., Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka & India and her work has been exhibited in the USA, UK & Japan. She has served as an Examiner & Jury Member in India & Abroad.

Visit & Interaction : Ar. Rabindra Vasavada, Ahmedabad - 30/06/2018

Ar. Rabindra Vasavada visited our Institute on Saturday, 30th June 2018. He had a brief tour of our college. He visited the active studios of 2nd and 3rd year.

Prof. Vasavada’s interests in perceiving shades of life in general and its relatedness to living in various cultures, in developing insights into natural and man-made forms through studies in history and life science, which he has supported by involvements in various schools and institutions in India and abroad as instructor since 1978 and has also led to receiving senior fellowships from institutions and organizations in India and abroad to develop specific studies in architecture aimed at publication since 1980. These include studies in temple architecture of western India and Orissa and also utilitarian architecture of stepwells in western India supported by funding from several research organizations in India and abroad since 1990. 

Later he had discussion with the faculty before having a very interactive session with the students.

We are glad to inform you that three of our students From final year of Academic Session 2017-18 batch were invited for " Thesis Orientation Program " for final yr. Students of Academic Session 2018-19 organised on Tuesday 3rd July 2018 at DYPSOA, Ambi.

The "thesis preparation presentations" done by the students were very much appreciated by the students giving them a complete overview of entire process of defining a concern, translating it into a architectural programme, working out the brief for the same and finally arriving at an architectural solution for the concern.
