Hands on Workshop 2017 : Adaptable Campus - 23/11/2017 to 27/11/2017

We VIT's PVP College of Architecture, Pune organised a Hands on Workshop (HoW) 2017 - ADAPTABLE CAMPUS from Thursday, 23rd November 2017 to Monday, 27th November 2017. 

Total 163 students of II Year B. Arch. & III Year B. Arch. participated in this workshop along with HoW team.

The theme for this year - "reducing foot print and increasing handprints for making college campus adaptable". 

Based on cosumption habits & behaviour pattern 4 heads were identified for the workshop - 
1. Waste management, 
2. Water management, 
3. Energy management, 
4. Ecosystem management 

We have started the workshop with following site visits to understand non-convetional approaches developed / adopted: 
1. Appa Patwardhan Safai wa Paryawaran Tantraniketan, Dehugaon & Vidyankur School, Vadgaon sheri, Pune - to study decentralised wastewater system developed by. Dr. S. V. Mapuskar (awarded Padmashree posthumously for his work in field of public health & sanitation) - DOSIWAM 
2. Sipna forest, Khadakwasla & Fanuc industries, Chakan (ecosystem developed by Oikos, Pune) - to study ecosystem & natural habitat developed by manmade interventions 
3. Appropriate Rural Technology Institute, Phaltan - to study the different systems developed for rural context, some of which are very much appropriate for adaptation in urban context for managing waste within the compound wall 
4. Tolani Maritime Institute, Induri, Talegaon - waste water recycling 
5. Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha, Karve Naga, Pune - Biogas plant - using food waste & generate energy 
6. Pebbles II, Bavdhan, Pune - water softners & wastewater reuse for a residential complex 

Followed by these site visits, students were oriented towards the understanding of the geography, geology & terrain of the college campus under guidance of Dr. Shikant Gabale, on Thursday, 23rd November 2017.

Total 10 interactive sessions were planned to give students exposure about different managements (please see the attached schedule for more details)

RSP : 2nd Year B. Arch. : Majuli, Assam - 04/11/2017 to 16/11/2017

As the first semester of the Academic session 2017-18 culminates with the examinations and juries, it was time for a break from the daily routine for the students and experience & learn new environments and lifestyles through Relative Study Program (RSP). 

This year, the Second year students went to the Island Village of Majuli in Assam. The visit was scheduled from Saturday, 4th November 2017 to Thursday, 16th November 2017.

RSP : 3rd Year B. Arch. : Understanding & Exploring the City of Amritsar - 4/11/2017 to 16/11/2017

As the first semester of the Academic session 2017-18 culminates with the examinations and juries, it was time for a break from the daily routine for the students and experience & learn new environments and lifestyles through Relative Study Program (RSP). 

 This year, the third year students explored the Walled city of Amritsar by documenting the lifestyles, living spaces, community spaces, markets and streets. They also visited the Chandigarh and the Virasat-e-Khalsa Museum. The visit was scheduled from Saturday, 4th November 2017 to Thursday, 16th November 2017.
