STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENT : Urban Nomads 2015

Arvindbhai Patel Institute of Environmental Design (APIED), Anand, Ahmedabad hosted an Architectural Competition - "URBAN NOMADS" on the theme of "RED SQUARE CALLING".

They had to design a "TRANSPORTABLE SHELTER" for two Individuals (Urban Nomads) of footprint not more than 50 sq.m. (500 sq.ft.) adaptive in Laddakh, Jaisalmer, Goa and Rainforests of South India on Live-Work-Display-Interact concept.

Eminent Jury members were:
Professor Satyaprakash Varanashi, Professor Yatin Pandya, Professor Rajan Rawal and
Professor Thomas Hilberth.

The result was announced on 27th December 2015.
WINNERS:
Shivraj Kanthi, Akash Shingvi, Gaurav Patil, Suchit Mutha and Shubbaam Rathi  from
(III year) PVPCOA, Pune.

Guest Lecture : Ar. Rashmi Ranade - 25/12/2015

Ar. Rashmi Ranade visited the college to conduct a Guest Lecture for the students of  IInd year.
Rashmi Ranade is the Founder and Lead Designer at COPPRE. Alumni of Sir J.J. College of Architecture, Rashmi further specialized in Product Design from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai.
Some of her cherished projects include designing the Karve Museum, heritage publications on Aurangabad and the Pune Heritage Map.

She shared with the II year students the experience and process in forming COPPRE - a social enterprise which excels in PRODUCT DESIGN using brass and copper. The main focus of this interaction was getting the LOCAL ARTISANS from Tambat Aali together to create.
Newer objects as against the traditional copper/brass utensils. She also discussed about empowerment of these artisans in terms of their income.

Presentation & Interaction : Ar. Shabbir Unwala, Lonavala - 24/12/2015

Ar. Shabbir Unwala paid a visit to the college. He shared is works and experiences with the students and faculty. It was a great learning and interactive session.

He is graduated from Rachna Sansad, Mumbai, in 1986. He started his practice in 1989 and has been chasing this chimera called diet architecture. He believes that Architecture resides in the relationship between man and nature and it is sought in process rather than product and its responsive both time & place. 

His architecture has evolved with very imaginative and bold use of natural materials like brick, stone and wood which he expresses in during structural experiments.

Visit & Interaction : Dr. Bimal Patel, Ahmedabad - 22/12/2015

Dr. Bimal Patel  paid a visit to the college and had an interesting interaction with the students of all the years. He had two separate interactive sessions in which he shared about his thoughts and experiences in his architectural career. One was with the faculty members and the other exclusively for the students. It was a great learning experience for them.

Dr. Bimal Patel (born August 31, 1961) has over 30 years of professional, research and teaching experience in architecture, urban design and urban planning. He is President of CEPT University in Ahmedabad. Dr. Patel also leads HCP Design Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd., a leading architecture, planning and project management firm.

Dr. Patel’s practice has focused on transforming urban design and planning practice to make them more effective in improving Indian cities.

Site Visit : BTM II (08) : R.C.C - Rohan Kritika housing apartments, Singhagad road, Pune - 16/12/2015

As a part of Building Technology and Materials (BTM), 1st year students visited the site to study the R.C.C. structure in detail and gain the on site experience and knowledge.
The Rohan Kritika Apartments site is located at Singhagad road,Pune, the picture perfect apartments are under construction, provided an opportunity for students to see the on site casting of beams, columns, reinforcement details etc.

Guest Lecture : BTM II : Ar. Vijay Purandare - 15/12/2015

Guest Lecture was arranged for Building Technology and Materials (BTM) for  the students of II year B.Arch.
Ar. Vijay Purandare, a Practising consultant in the field of Acoustical design, was invited to conduct the expert lecture on the topic of Acoustics. The purpose of the expert lecture was to develop an understanding of the acoustics principles & implications in construction.
He has been an Acoustics consultant for many spaces like Auditoriums, Conference rooms, Lecture Halls etc. across India.

Site Visit : AD III : Metrica Consultancy, Wai, Bopordi Tal, Wai, Satara

As a part of Architectural Design (AD) III year visited to Metrica Consultancy, Wai, Bopordi Tal, Wai, Satara.

It was organised for third year students of  B. Arch as a part of Academic curriculum for Architectural Design and Landscape Architecture and Environmental Sciences. As a part of Studio for both the subjects. The site came recommended to us as it already had an existing facility that we could learn from. The purpose of the visit was to study and understand the site and its context w.r.t. various site planning parameters.

Visit & Interaction : Ar. Akshat Bhatt - 12/12/2015

Ar. Akshat Bhatt of Ahmedabad paid a visit to the college and had an interesting interactive session with students of all the years. It was a great learning experience for the students.

He is an accomplished photographer and a gifted musician, interests that contribute to his architectural endeavours. A small award-winning practice that has allowed creative independence by its clients, Architecture Discipline was established in 2007.

His work innovates formal arrangements, engineering, M.E.P, services and building physics parameters to advance the principles of sustainable design that are visible in the overall expression of the projects. As a result, all buildings are integrated from conceptual framework to the tactile experience.

Remembering Late Ar. Prof. Mohammad Shaheer, New Delhi - 07/12/2015

VIT's  PVP College of Architecture had a Condolence meeting for Late Ar. Prof. Mohammad Shaheer who was a master of  Landscape Architect by profession.

He was an extremely talented great personality with sharp mind, great Intellectual qualities, great teacher, counsellor and wonderful human being. It was a great loss to the whole architectural fraternity loosing such an eminent personality.

The college altogether prayed for his comfort for his soul to rest in peace in the arms of our Lords.
