Invitation for Architectural Quotient ( AQ ) 2018-19 - 20/07/2018

Dear All, Vivekanand Institute of Technology's Padmabhushan Dr. Vasantdada Patil College of Architecture, Pune ( in association with IIA, Pune ) is hosting a quiz event " Architectual Quotient (AQ) -2018" for students of Architecture on Friday, 20th July 2018 at S. M. Joshi Sabhagriha, Navi Peth, Pune.

Any student enrolled in the current academic year 2018-19 from 2nd to 5th year can participate in the AQ-2018 event.

Visit & Interation : Ar. Brinda Somaya, Mumbai - 06/07/2018

Ar. Brinda Somaya visited our Institute on Friday, 06th July 2018. She had a brief tour of our college. She had an interactive session with the faculty after which she met the students and discussed various issues.

Brinda Somaya, Architect and Conservationist completed her Master of Arts degree from Smith College, USA after graduating from the Sir J. J. College of Architecture, Mumbai. She believes that development and progress must proceed without straining the cultural and historic environment.

Her philosophy: the Architect’s role is that of guardian – his is the conscience of the built and un-built environment. This belief underlines her work at “Somaya and Kalappa Consultants”, the company she has headed for the last three decades.

Her oeuvre, spanning large corporate, industrial and institutional campuses extends to public spaces, which she has rebuilt and sometimes reinvented as pavements, parks and plazas as well as historic restoration and adaptive reuse.

Brinda is a Member of the Editorial Board for MARG Architectural Books, Member of the Committee of `Environmental Impact Assessment of New Construction Projects & New Industrial Estates for `Ministry of Environment & Forests’ Government of India and was a Member of Urban Heritage Conservation Committee and Mumbai’s Initiative for the Protection & Improvement of Streets & Public Spaces.. She was also on the IAWA board of Advisors (International Archive of Women in Architecture), U.S.A. & Founder Trustee of the Hecar Foundation.

She chaired a conference & organized a seminal exhibition in Mumbai on the Work of Women Architects with a focus on South Asia. Brinda has delivered analytical and critical talks as well as presented papers in India and abroad on her work – and other connected subjects. She has given lectures in the U.S.A, U.K., Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka & India and her work has been exhibited in the USA, UK & Japan. She has served as an Examiner & Jury Member in India & Abroad.

Visit & Interaction : Ar. Rabindra Vasavada, Ahmedabad - 30/06/2018

Ar. Rabindra Vasavada visited our Institute on Saturday, 30th June 2018. He had a brief tour of our college. He visited the active studios of 2nd and 3rd year.

Prof. Vasavada’s interests in perceiving shades of life in general and its relatedness to living in various cultures, in developing insights into natural and man-made forms through studies in history and life science, which he has supported by involvements in various schools and institutions in India and abroad as instructor since 1978 and has also led to receiving senior fellowships from institutions and organizations in India and abroad to develop specific studies in architecture aimed at publication since 1980. These include studies in temple architecture of western India and Orissa and also utilitarian architecture of stepwells in western India supported by funding from several research organizations in India and abroad since 1990. 

Later he had discussion with the faculty before having a very interactive session with the students.

Invitation to Participate in Asian Contest for Architectural Rookie's Award 2018 : Indian Domestic Contest : Important stages of Rookies 2018 - 21/06/2018

PVP College of Architecture, Pune invites B.arch students of 3rd ,4th and 5th year of academic session 2018-19 to participate in Indian Domestic CONTEST 2018 for Asian Contest of Architectural Rookie’s Award (ACARA). 

The topic for this year ACARA is "Habitation". Therefore only “Habitation” projects like individual housing, group housing are eligible for the competition. 

Entries from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year B.Arch students of academic batch 2017-18 will be accepted. We kindly request you to encourage and select *Only Two Students* from your college to participate in the contest.

FOUR IMPORTANT STAGES OF COMPETITION: 

Stage 1: Online Registration

Stage 2: Online Submission requirements (Latest by Monday, 30th July 2018)
  • Powerpoint presentation with maximum 10 slides and maximum 25 MB
  • 4 number of A3 panels explaining your design in PDF format.

Stage 3: Reporting & Submission at PVPCOA, Pune ( From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Friday 3rd August 2018)
(Note: Submission for stage 3 to be done in person by the participant )
Submission requirements for Stage 3 are as follows:

REGISTRATION CHAGRES for PARTICIPANTS : Rs 300

• A1 Sheets :2 numbers (any medium is permitted, potrait or landscape format)
• Model of any suitable scale duly endorsed by the college
• Power point presentation in a DVD

Stage 4: Presentation of entries to the jury panel at PVPCOA, Pune (From 8:00am to 6:00pm, Saturday 4th August 2018)
(Powerpoint presentation of maximum 5 minutes for each entry as per Rookies standard format)

Please note  a detailed email with the registration code mumber and format of first slide of presentation will be sent to the registered final 60 participants.

BROAD DETAILS OF ACARA: 

ACARA is an International contest for students of Architecture, held every year in order to contribute to architectural education and establish rich networking associated with modern architecture in Asia. This design competition has its own uniqueness that it is open only for the current 3rd, 4th & 5th year students to present their 2nd, 3rd & 4th Year B. Arch Architectural Design work.

Dr. Youngil Lee from Japan is the Chief organiser for ACARA. The objective of ACARA competition is to review, judge & evaluate architectural works and ideas created by students studying architectural design in universities in various countries across Asia like Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, Vietnam & India. 

 For the Indian domestic contest for architectural Rookies-2018, (hosted by PVP college of architecture) invitation will be sent to all the 400 plus colleges recognised by Council of Architecture in india.

 A) ELIGIBILITY: 

 1) Bonafied students of 3rd, 4th & 5th year B.Arch studying in any Architectural Institute in India recognised by Council of Architecture.

 2) The topic for this year ACARA is "Habitation" . Entries from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year B.Arch students of academic batch 2017-18 will be accepted.

 (Note: Max. 2 Individual Entries per College ; Group work will not be eligible; Only Architectural Design project of 3rd year B.Arch. done in academic session 2017-18 will be eligible.) 

 B) AWARDS : 

· Indian Contest – Top 2 Gold Awards worth Rs.10,000 each & 3 Silver Awards worth Rs.5000 each along with a certificate and trophy. 
 · Top 2 Gold winners out of these 5 awardees from Indian Domestic contest 2018 will be nominated to represent India for presenting their work in ACARA 20178

Opportunity for 2 Gold winners in the year 2013, 2014 , 2015 , 2016 & 2017 : 

· Winners of Indian domestic contest held in 2013 had an opportunity to represent India in Osaka, Japan 
· Winners of Indian domestic contest held in 2014 had an opportunity to represent India in Dalian, China 
· Winners of Indian domestic contest 2015 had an opportunity to represent India in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. 
· Winners of Indian domestic contest 2016 had an opportunity to represent India in Singapore.
· Winners of Indian domestic contest 2017 had an opportunity to represent India in Bangkok, Thailand.

 (Note: Travel and other expenses for Asian contest is reimbursed by the host of ACARA for the two Gold Winners)

 C) JUDGING CRITERIA :

 · Design will be assessed by Power-point presentation, Drawings (2 numbers of A1 sized panel) as well as Model for the Indian Domestic Contest 2018. 
· Students will present their work in the form of Power-point presentation for max. 5 mins each as per Rookies standard format.

 D) JURY PANEL: Jury panel for Indian domestic contest for ACARA 2018 involves more than 10 jury members out of which 2-5 jury members will be from colleges with winning entries in 2016.

Visit & Interaction : Ar. Bijoy Ramachandran, Bangalore - 28/02/2018

Ar. Bijoy Ramachandran visited our college on Wednesday, 28th February 2018. He took a brief stride through our college campus and also had interaction with the students and faculty members.

Ar. Bijoy is a cofounder of Hundred Hands Firm in Bangalore and is also a filmaker. He has also made two films. In 2005, he made a documentary called ‘Architecture & the City: A Bangalore Perspective’, chronicling the nature of professional practice in the city. In 2008, he produced ‘Doshi’, a documentary on architect B.V. Doshi, which was directed by Premjit Ramachandran.

Parampara 2017-18 - 15/02/2018

During the Insight Week, Parampara - A Food Festival in conjunction with "Traditional Day" was organised at PVPCOA on 15th February 2018.

The main aim of this event is to acquaint us with various traditional foods which are served in respective traditional attire. A competition is organised for Best Food Stall (with respect to Stall Design, Food and Traditional attire). The event also awards Best Costume - Male and Female. 

This year too, a blend of various cultures was seen at the event. With stalls ranging from Egyptian Culture to Indian Street Food, the people who attended the event got a glimpse and taste of various cultures at every stall. The Best Stall Design was won by the "Islamic" Stall by one of the First Year Groups.
