EXIT 2017 EXHIBITION : Inauguration - 21/04/2017

The Exit Exhibition 2017 - An Exhibition showcasing the work of final year students of current batch of PVP College of Architecture, was inaugurated on Friday 21st April 2017 at 6.00 pm at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, Swargate, Pune, Maharashtra at the hands of Mr. Satish Khot, President, National Society for Clean Cities, and Ar. Iqbal Chaney, an eminent architect, who was invited as Guest of Honour.

It was a rare opportunity for the Fifth Year students to share their academic works and gain critical inputs from the Chief Guests. Mr Khot encouraged all the students to never give up the power of dreaming and continue along the path of thinking, experimenting and infusing ideas in creating meaningful built environments.

He expressed his concerns regarding current high rise responses to slum rehabilitation schemes and said that much needs to be done for the people in such areas, in terms of proposing alternative approaches, human scale of proportionate spaces and built forms, among other things.
Ar. Iqbal Chaney mentioned that he was confident about the progress that the students would make in their journeys in the field of architecture. He offered to share some of the foundational principles which he believed, had sustained, nurtured and resulted in the growth of his architectural practice over the years. He strongly advised students to take inspiration from the same. He offered to state those principles: He emphasized that any kind of an involvement in the design should be equivalent to an ‘award winning design’.

However, he cautioned that one is not aiming for an award or one does not work towards the goal of getting an award. Elaborating on this, he meant that one needs to work for the best achievable result, focus on what is right and truthful for the project and give 100% - this automatically would transform the design into an award winning project. He advised the students that one should abstain from committing one’s design process for ‘free’. The market may present numerous situations wherein, one may be tempted to undercut one’s fees but one must resist such unethical practices. One must know and stress on one’s value of work. Further, he stated that in the journey of architectural practice, respect for all professionals should be exercised. Securing of any project should be solely accomplished by one’s own merit rather than by any other compromising means.

Adhering to this approach, would instill respect for you by the entire professional community. The concern for ‘environmental issues’ and sustainability is a must. Again, he emphasized, that thinking about the environment and responding through design should be inculcated as an intrinsic value rather than working for the goal of getting LEEDS certification. Design should be understood as a matter of ‘common sense’ - something that comes from the heart, is humane, responds to context, situation, client’s needs, environment etc. Finally, he urged students to develop your own depth, integrity and character as professionals. This is a long process, requires hard work and dedication and requires one to believe in one’s values.

He concluded by saying that Architecture is a great profession, but not easy. However, it is not rocket science either. He urged students to never give up on the profession and would like to see all students’ careers blossoming in the future. The students were fortunate to hear words of wisdom coming from such strong stalwarts.

The EXIT 2017 EXHIBITION is open from 9am to 8pm on Saturday 22nd April 2017 to Monday 24th April 2017
