of life for all by securing deeply democratic processes of decision-making
to ensure that urban transportation systems are - universally accessible, socially
just, safe and secure, economically viable & environmentally sound.
VIT’s PVP College of Architecture
VIT’s PVP College of Architecture is a reputed
& upcoming Institute of Architecture based near Pirangut Pune
offering five year – B Arch degree course under University of Pune, with the
belief in creating sensitive and socially conscious
architects who can contribute in shaping our built environment.
Concerns of the workshop-
In the times of today, where Car & private
vehicles rule the means of Urban mobility, extreme importance seems to be given
for their movement on the Streets. Lanes are becoming broader & sidewalks
are getting shorter in width. Streets are becoming increasingly unsafe for
People to walk . Right from crimes being committed in broad daylight to the
numerous accidents which happen every day the life on street is becoming
nothing but a nightmare. Mobility improvements may address to developing a
vehicular discipline for both private & public vehicles but the question of
‘How streets merge themselves a ‘Stage’ or a ‘Canvas’ for daily life in
the urban communities’ remains unanswered.
Focus of this workshop:
This focus of this workshop could be explained as
under the heading ‘Complete Design of Street’ stressing the following aspects
as under:
1) Understand the concept of ‘Sustainable Urban Mobility’ & how principles can be applied on to an
existing Urban fabric in terms of reducing the overdependence on private
vehicles & promote aspects like Public transport, Pedestrian environment &
Non motorized transport systems.
2) Exploring the value of Street as an ‘Urban
space’ as a stage setting for daily Human life, where by the physical &
spatial redesign of Streets or squares can lead to vibrant urban spaces
encouraging a ‘People friendly environment’.
