The academic environment of PVPCOA was enriched by the visit of internationally acclaimed Architect Patrick Schumacher (Principal - Zaha Hadid Architects) on Monday, 27th February 2017, at the request and initiation of Ar. Prasanna Desai, Director PVPCOA.
Ar. Patrick was accompanied by his team of three associates and he was received by Ar. Prasanna Desai (Director – PVPCOA), Ar. Vikas Bhandari (mentor), Shri Jitendraji Pitaliya (Secretary), Ar. Shekhar Garud and all faculty members. Ar. Patrick was in PVPCOA for two hours and was guided to the ‘Insight’ exhibition of academic works of the students of the college and his critical comments on the same were received.
Later his interaction with all the faculty members was organised where discussions regarding design skill development, use of technology, design methodology were explored. Further issues regarding empowering the students through use of digital technology were discussed and his experiences with students at the Architectural Association.
A separate interaction with the students took place, wherein issues concerning the application of parametricism in the context of India, the cultural applicability of ‘mass modelling’ and the need to respond to diversity of economics, hand skills, construction techniques was voiced by the students. In the discussion, it was felt that further development in the upcoming field of parametrism was possible based on the contextual situation faced in India.
The visit of Ar. Patrick Schumacher has certainly infused students with more critical ideas regarding architecture and its relevance for the contemporary situation in India and abroad.
