Aim of this visit was to understand architecture of this region with respect to the climatic context and applying this understanding in today's context. Students documented this complete settlement in terms of its layout, climate, people, culture, building technology, etc.

SHEAR FORCE : Inter College Football Tournament - 14/01/2012 - 15/01/2012

We have started an annual Inter-college sports event - 'SHEAR FORCE', which gives an opportunity for architecture students to participate enthusiastically on the field.

This year we had organised an Inter-college Football Tournament on 14th & 15th Jan 2012. All architecture colleges in Pune participated in the event to make it a success with tremendous hardwork put in by student volunteers and the support extended by Mr. Pankaj Gundecha of Pushkar Developers.

The semi-finals were between ACOA v/s PVPCOA and SCOA v/s BVPCOA, with PVPCOA and SCOA making it to finals.

Team SCOA won the tournament while Mayur of PVPCOA was honoured as the "Best player of the Tournament" and Ashwin and Ajinkya of SCOA scoring maximum goals. Prizes were distributed at the hands of Mr. Abhay Chhajjed, Mr. Jitendra Pitaliya, Ar. Prasanna Desai and Mr. Pankaj Gundecha.

Ar. Punita Mehta held a workshop titled ' Pedagogical Foundation for Architecture', for the students and faculty. This workshop was related to the subject called Basic Design. In this presentation she told about how they try to relate all subjects and donot work on any subject in isolated fashion. They try and take forward topic covered in one subject into another. She also told the way they conduct assignments for each topic and what students understand from each assignment.

Lalit Bhati, an Architect Planner from Auroville held a presentation on 'Understanding Sustainability'.
He spoke about sustainability and its true meaning. The students were explained through slide presentations about the various ways in which energy conservation takes place giving a glimpse of Auroville and strategies and experiments going on there. After the presentatios, the students had an informal talk with him in the amphitheater which was very interactive and ranged in topics from Building Sustainability to Spirituality.

Ist yr B.Arch students visited Hande Wada, Umbraz, accompanied by Ar. Amit Hande, to study timber construction, joinery and detailing for the subject of Building Technology and Materials. The students studied two such wadas, one of which was finished with exposed brick. As a result students not just got to study the timber construction but also the brick masonry and the different bonds.

Vigyano Scholma, a sculptor from Germany visited the school and conducted a workshop on sketching for the Ist yr B.Arch students. He started with some warm up exercises to free the mind and the hand for better sketching. The students then sketched the models posing for them. A visit was arranged to the ‘Creative Club’ for the Ist B.Arch students. The students got to see eminent artist Sujata Dharap’s work. In the interaction with students she talked about liberal arts, freedom of expression and abstraction. They also got an opportunity to interact with the eminent landscape architect Ar. Jayant Dharap. He emphasized on the importance of sketching in the field of architecture. In all it was a very creative and learning experience for the students and the faculty.

Eminent architect Ar. Anupama Kundoo, Auroville / Germany visited the school and went through the students academic work. She also interacted with all the students about creativity and expressed that one should not restrict herself / himself from creative ideas, as no idea is impractical. He talked about the teaching policies an institute should take up for the benefit of the students and how the design projects for all the studios should be handled. He also talked about the team work and intellect that needs to be put together for the benefit of the design studios.

In the second week of the term, the 1st year students were taken to the previous campus of PVPCOA at Hadapsar. They studied and documented the entire display of students work and packed each and every panel very meticulously with a coding system, which was then brought to the new campus at Pirangut. The students got to learn design of exhibition space and also how a coding system and drawings can help communicate a space in detail.

Eminent architect Ar. Kabir Vajpeyi, New Delhi visited the school and conducted a lecture on the ‘Improving construction practices : Connecting with the traditional knowledge’. The lecture was based on brick as a construction material with respect to construction details, character and function as in the traditional architecture. He also expressed a need to revive traditional construction and management practices and apply the knowledge in practice.
